Aviation Technologies Opens 2nd Hangar |
|
Evergreen Aviation Technologies Corporation (EGAT), a joint venture between EVA
Air and General Electric and part of Taiwan's Evergreen Group, officially
opened its second aircraft maintenance hangar on 31 Dec., 2004. The huge new
structure simultaneously accommodates one wide-body and one narrow-body
aircraft, and is located in the Second Maintenance Zone of Chiang Kai-Shek
International Airport in Taipei.
The new 11,685 square-meter (127,484-square-foot) hangar is 123 meters (406
feet) wide, 95 meters (314 feet) long, and 32 meters (106 ft.) tall. It is a
welcomed addition to EGAT's flourishing aircraft maintenance and repair
operations, and complements existing facilities that include a powerful
jet-engine, overhaul shop, test cell and a massive hangar that accommodates as
many as two B747-400 wide-body aircraft and one narrow-body jet at the same
time. It also sets the stage for EGAT's entry into the airframe conversion
business, a service currently provided by only a handful of companies around
the world.
"The new hangar is a milestone in EGAT's development as a reliable partner
delivering high-quality, customized aircraft maintenance at an exceptional
value," said K.W. Nieh, Senior Vice President of EVA Air.
"It gives us facilities to expand operations and perform airframe conversions
that meet the highest quality and safety standards. The airframe conversion
business will be the primary revenue generator for this second hangar."
Bringing Aircraft Conversion services to Taiwan is enhancing aircraft
maintenance and elevating the region's skills. Ongoing growth in the aviation
industry, particularly within Asia, and corresponding increases in maintenance
needs among EGAT customers spurred the company to break ground on the new
hangar in late 2003 and shepherd it to completion in 16 months. Kuo-Kung
Construction Company, an Evergreen Group sister company, worked hand-in-hand
with EGAT throughout the building process to meet strict requirements and
finish the project on time. It is a state-of-the-art, fully customized aircraft
maintenance and repair hangar.
Selection of a Taiwan-based company to design and build the new aircraft
maintenance hangar shortened construction time, limited EGAT's exposures to
cost escalations for construction materials, and mitigated risks stemming from
project design and execution issues.
In the decade since EGAT built its first hangar and launched its aircraft
maintenance and repair services, the company's airframe maintenance activities
have grown steadily. This demand for services has been a result of parent EVA
Air's fleet expansion and EGAT's burgeoning base of third-party airline
customers. And every customer has full benefit of the consistently high level
of quality, safety and service value that EGAT delivers.
