BOEING
and Evergreen Aviation Technologies
signs Conversion Agreement for Large Cargo Freighter Conversions
|
|
Evergreen Aviation Technologies Corporation (EGAT), a member of the Evergreen
Group of Companies as well as a joint venture between Taiwan’s EVA Air &
General Electric, is pleased to announce its partnership with BOEING on EGAT
being BOEING’s B747-400 Large Cargo Freighter (LCF) Conversion partner. A
modification agreement between both parties has been formalized today in a
ceremony between Mr. Scott Strode, Boeing Vice President of B787 Manufacturing
& Quality, and Mr. David Wang, Chairman of EGAT.
Over a span of two (2) years, EGAT shall be engaged by BOEING to perform the
conversion activities on three (3) aircraft, from the B747-400 passenger
aircraft configuration into the B747-400 LCF. The B747-400 LCF shall support
BOEING’s latest B787 aircraft manufacturing and assembly activities. EGAT was
selected from a competitive pool of global aviation maintenance, repair and
overhaul (MRO) industry players. This event not only marks an important
milestone in its development as a global conversion MRO player, but also serves
as a springboard into the Aircraft Conversion market for the aviation industry
in Taiwan.
The B747-400 LCF aircraft shall be employed by BOEING for transporting of large
B787 sub-assemblies from different sites around the world for final assembly in
the United States. The B747-400 LCF is a joint BOEING - EGAT mission that
integrates newly developed BOEING design & engineering with EGAT’s execution of
the modification in accordance with those specifications from BOEING.
The upper portion of the B747-400 fuselage cross-section will be enlarged,
making the airplane capable of holding 65,000 ft3 of cargo by volume. This
modified aircraft will also incorporate a swing-tail to facilitate ease of
loading and unloading over-sized cargo.
