| EVA
Becomes IATA International Safety Audit Operator |
|
Applying strict internationally recognized standards to reflect current
regulatory requirements and best practices within the airline industry, the
International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA)
Program has found EVA Air's performance to be excellent, concluding that there
are “No Findings, No Observation.” IATA representatives will travel to Taiwan
in May to award a special certificate to EVA.
EVA applied for the IOSA audit on March 7, 2005 and gained certification by
March 28. The Taiwan-based airline joins 33 carriers worldwide who have become
IOSA certified since July 2003 when the program began.
"IOSA certification reaffirms the value of EVA's ongoing emphasis on safety and
quality service," said K.W. Nieh, Executive Vice President, EVA Air. "This
certification is recognized by aviation authorities worldwide, including the
U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, and we are very pleased to achieve
further validation for EVA's best practices and commitment to the highest
international standards.”
IOSA uses internationally recognized quality audit principles with standardized
methodology to assess an airline's operational management and control systems.
Built into the process are quality, integrity and security to ensure that other
airlines and regulators can rely upon the validity of the findings. IATA
implemented its Operational Safety Audit program to establish common safety and
operational standards for airlines entering alliances and code-sharing
agreements, and to streamline the process of conforming with civil aviation
authorities in different nations. As an example, the U.S. FAA has authorized
IOSA audits for code-sharing operations.
The IOSA process examines eight areas, including corporate organization and
management, flight operations, operational control/flight dispatch, aircraft
ground handling, aircraft engineering and maintenance, cabin operations, cargo
operations and operational security that must comply with a 739-item checklist.
EVA's corporate culture embraces the highest safety and operational standards.
Its maintenance operations are certified by the U.S. FAA and have been singled
out by the Boeing Company for excellence. In addition, it holds ISO
certifications in multiple areas.
