Ecological Sustainability Management

EGAT recognizes biodiversity as an important foundation for global sustainable development and ecosystem services, and changes in biodiversity may affect the environment, society, and the Company's long-term operations. In response to the direction outlined in the UN Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (COP15), EGAT has publicly issued its biodiversity and zero-deforestation commitments. By implementing the Sustainable Development Best Practice Principles, Environmental and Energy Policy, Supply Chain Sustainability Policy, and Supplier Code of Conduct, the Company actively engages stakeholders, works to reduce negative impacts on natural ecosystems, and advances toward the goal of net positive impact (NPI) for biodiversity.

The Company also follows the development of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework and plans to introduce the TNFD framework. By applying the recommended LEAP approach, EGAT will clarify operational dependencies and impacts on natural capital, formulate effective strategies for reducing ecological impacts and restoring ecosystems, and realize a vision in which operations and nature grow together.

Introducing Plant-Based Cutting Fluids to Protect Biodiversity

In relation to biodiversity and nature-related issues, the Company actively optimizes processes and, when selecting certain process materials and raw materials, also considers natural resource use, ecotoxicity risks, and environmental impacts. EGAT introduced plant-based cutting fluid developed by MCM Technology. The product's core raw material comes from sustainable agricultural plant oils and incorporates waste cooking oil regeneration technology, providing raw material traceability and a resource-circulation concept.

Compared with conventional mineral-oil cutting fluids, these products provide the following related benefits in reducing potential environmental and ecosystem impacts during process use:

Reduce ecotoxicity risks.

The product is fully biodegradable, and its formulation reduces the use of specific ecotoxic chemicals, helping mitigate potential toxic impacts on aquatic ecosystems, soil microorganisms, and surrounding ecosystems during use or after entering the environment.

Reduce volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

VOC emissions can be significantly reduced during process use, helping improve workplace air quality and reducing indirect impacts of air pollution on the surrounding natural environment.

Indirectly reduce waste flows.

Because the product has a longer service life, replacement frequency can be reduced, thereby lowering cutting-fluid waste and reducing the environmental burden of downstream waste treatment.

Leading the Introduction of Eco-Friendly Aerospace Cleaning Agents to Protect Aquatic Ecosystems

Nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPE) and methylene chloride are widely used in industrial cleaning, but both pose major hazards to aquatic environments. After being discharged into the environment, NPE degrades into the environmental hormone nonylphenol, seriously interfering with the endocrine systems of aquatic organisms and accumulating biologically, which creates greater harm to edible fish and other aquatic life. Methylene chloride itself is a toxic chemical; beyond health impacts on operators, accidental leakage may directly poison aquatic organisms.

To protect aquatic environments surrounding EGAT and important downstream wetlands, the Company worked with the major international chemical supplier Cee-Bee in 2025 to complete technical substitution and verification for multiple maintenance cleaning agents, successfully introducing NPE-free products across aircraft engine maintenance and airframe maintenance processes, including degreasers, descalers, and fuselage cleaning agents.

The Company also adopted environmentally friendly paint strippers free of methylene chloride more than a decade ago and replaced them with non-toxic formulations. Biodegradable products are used for some tasks, substantively avoiding ecological harm caused by toxic substances.

EGAT applied the Ministry of Environment's ban one year ahead of schedule. While ensuring maintenance quality, the Company significantly reduced the potential environmental impacts of aircraft engine and airframe maintenance processes, mitigated ecological impacts that may arise from maintenance services at the source, and helped lead Taiwan's aircraft maintenance industry toward green transformation.
